Andrea Usai on his first day working at Recoil, Glasgow

As an OPTIMA PhD student, I am part of the EPSRC/MRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Optical Medical Imaging, so I have the opportunity to spend some time off my project to do a placement in a field of my choice.

After 3 years of business studying, I was full of theoretical concepts and new strategic plans that I was eager to try, so of course, I went to work with a growing business venture.

It's been 2 weeks now since I started my placement with Recoil and I've already learned so much.

I love the team's vibe and its openness to new ideas.

When I started, Recoil was already doing so well on its main channels of distribution, so I thought I would help develop and expand its market in other countries. This gave me complete freedom to explore new methods and hypothesis, and I have to say, it's all paying off.

Running advertising campaigns, managing to get to the first page on Amazon using just organic searches, optimising the product with their Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), using Facebook and Instagram to generate leads, increasing conversion and understanding even more how to address a target market.

Up to this moment has been a blast. What else is there to say? I can't wait to learn more!
